QoS/Bandwidth Management

From having a quick search, it seems that the Sky Netgear router doesn't do QoS or any bandwidth management, but it's something I could do with and I'd appreciate any suggestions. Here are the approaches I was thinking about:
  • Flash router with different firmware
  • Use a second router and do the same (I've got a spare Linksys one but it's a bit unreliable since the cat spilled a vase of water on it - needs reset regularly)
  • Proxy server (I've got a spare PowerMac G4)

If anyone has managed this, let me know how you did it! Thanks.
